The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) inspected 166 mobile sites nationwide between October 15 and 22 to boost telecom service quality and address consumer complaints.
Inspections revealed shortcomings in network coverage as well as voice and internet quality, prompting the authority to instruct operators to remedy the issues within the set period.
The monitoring was carried out by PTA's 12 zonal offices together with relevant stakeholders, covering locations in Karachi, Quetta, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kasur, Pattoki, Kot Radha Kishan, Nowshera Virkan, Torghar, Faisalabad and Gilgit-Baltistan.
PTA said it will keep working with telecom firms, related organisations and local administrations to enhance network performance and provide more dependable services for users across Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's internet users continue to report slow speeds and patchy mobile coverage. In a Friday National Assembly session, PPP lawmaker Aseefa Bhutto Zardari noted that neither 4G nor 5G functioned properly in Nawabshah, and presiding officer Abdul Qadir Patel questioned the push for 5G while existing services remain unreliable.
Parliamentary Secretary for IT Sabeen Ghauri stated that 5G is available in 24 cities, with a nationwide rollout expected to take another two years.
A PTA report using second-quarter 2026 data showed 4G users experienced an average download speed of 18.9 Mbps, and 5G accounted for only 3.95 percent of users' connected time, underscoring its limited reach.
