Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu will receive an honorary doctorate from the International Islamic University Islamabad in recognition of his public service and leadership, as announced during his three-day state visit to Pakistan where Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended congratulations.

The announcement followed efforts by both nations to bolster bilateral ties via pacts spanning trade, healthcare, education, and tourism. Prime Minister Shehbaz noted during a joint ceremony that Pakistan and the Maldives held fruitful talks regarding economic growth, defense strategy, and professional training.

Pakistan has a history of supporting education and health sectors in the Maldives, according to the prime minister, who pointed out that numerous Maldivian scholars have attended Pakistani higher education institutions, especially in medical disciplines.

Approximately 250 Pakistani physicians and various paramedics currently work in the Maldives, and PM Shehbaz stated that Pakistan stands ready to supply additional staff. President Muizzu emphasized widening study prospects for Maldivian scholars and professionals, while both sides talked about boosting MBBS slots through Pakistan's Technical Assistance Program and creating local medical internships.

Both heads of state observed the signing of 20 pacts and memorandums of understanding addressing multiple fields such as higher education, tourism, health, agriculture, information technology, and youth development.
