Mike Hesson is expected to retain his position as Pakistan's test head coach for the two-match series against Sri Lanka scheduled for November.

Reports indicate that Hesson took on interim head-coaching duties before Pakistan's third Test versus England and is projected to keep the role for the upcoming Sri Lanka fixtures, but the PCB has not issued a formal statement.

The Pakistan Cricket Board appointed Hesson after dismissing head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul following losses in the first two Tests against England, and also altered the squad by swapping out seven players.

Hesson had previously voiced his desire to lead Pakistan's test side permanently. After the third Test against England in September, he said he was willing to take the job but warned that boosting the team's results would require time.

The Sri Lanka series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27, with the opening Test in Rawalpindi from November 9-13 and the second in Lahore from November 17-21.

Currently, Hesson is Pakistan's permanent white-ball head coach and recently steered the side to a 2-1 win in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

After that series, he commended T20I captain Sahibzada Farhan's leadership and expressed belief in young fast bowler Razaullah, who debuted internationally in the third Test against England.
