Pakistan and Oman have concluded a reciprocal visa-free arrangement for holders of diplomatic, special, official and service passports, aiming to deepen bilateral relations.
The deal excludes regular Pakistani passports, so it does not apply to general tourists or other travelers.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi signed the pact during the eighth Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission meeting on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif observed the signing of six documents covering cooperation, including the commission's protocol and memoranda of understanding on records and archives, information and broadcasting, information technology and telecommunications, and news exchange and media cooperation.
The statements did not indicate when the visa-free provision will start or the allowed duration of stays.
In his discussion with the Omani foreign minister, Shehbaz described Oman as a key maritime neighbour and valued partner, noting that the successful commission session would broaden cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties.
The Omani foreign minister welcomed the result and commended Pakistan's diplomatic work to ease regional tensions and foster peaceful solutions.
