The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) stated that submitting a First Information Report (FIR) to police is not a compulsory step for people who need a replacement for a lost Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).

This clarification responded to a social-media query from a citizen, addressing what NADRA called a widespread misunderstanding about the lost-card replacement process.

NADRA emphasized that it has no rule demanding applicants to attach an FIR copy before their replacement request can be accepted or processed.

While the agency noted that notifying police about the loss can serve as a safeguard against possible misuse of the missing ID, it is not a mandatory condition for obtaining a new card.

Individuals who have misplaced their CNIC may go to a NADRA registration centre to file a replacement request or use the Pak ID online portal.

The authority added that providing an FIR copy is not required merely to justify the need for another identity document.
