Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has begun extracting gas and condensate from its Bitrism East-1 exploratory well located in Khairpur district, Sindh. The well is currently delivering seven million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscfd) and 200 barrels of condensate each day.
The company says the output is sourced from the Basal Sands and expects production to increase gradually as the well's flow stabilises.
From Discovery to Production
OGDC announced the Bitrism East-1 discovery on October 1, 2025, with hydrocarbons found in the Massive and Basal Sands of the Lower Goru Formation.
To commission the well, OGDC installed a flowline about 28 kilometres long with an eight-inch diameter using its own resources. This pipeline connects the well to the Sinjhoro Plant, where gas is processed before being fed into the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) network.
Earlier this year, the company also reported additional gas finds in Khairpur district.
Boost for Domestic Gas Supply
The new output is set to augment domestic gas availability and supports Pakistan's aim to reduce reliance on imported energy, enhancing energy security.
OGDC holds a 77.5 percent working interest in the Bitrism Exploration Licence, while Government Holdings (Pvt) Limited (GHPL) retains the remaining 22.5 percent.
Last month, OGDCL, Mari and HUBCO began production from a joint-venture gas well in Sindh.
