In the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27 (July-September), Pakistan's crude oil imports increased by roughly 12 percent, reaching 2.78 million tonnes, compared with 2.48 million tonnes in the corresponding period a year earlier.
Oil sector figures show that 2,780,176 tonnes of crude were brought in over the three months, as refineries boosted purchases because of worries about possible supply interruptions linked to the Middle East crisis.
August Recorded the Largest Shipments
July imports totaled 763,702 tonnes. In August, volumes surged about 62 percent to 1,238,000 tonnes, marking the quarter's peak month.
September saw a decline to 778,964 tonnes, roughly 37 percent lower than August.
Of the quarterly total, 2,168,681 tonnes were processed at Keamari and 611,495 tonnes arrived via the Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility.
Pakistan relies heavily on imported crude for its refineries. Sources in the oil sector said the higher intake helped maintain sufficient crude inventories and meet projected demand. Earlier in the year, PARCO also secured crude through alternative routes to sustain supplies.
Petrol and Diesel Imports
During the quarter, the country also imported 1,275,000 tonnes of 92 RON petrol, with 253,222 tonnes handled at Keamari and 1,021,949 tonnes through FOTCO.
High-speed diesel imports amounted to 83,497 tonnes, all received via FOTCO in August. In September, 95 RON petrol imports were 14,997 tonnes, also through FOTCO.
In the previous fiscal year, petroleum imports reached 16.1 million tonnes from July to May FY26.
Furnace Oil Exports Top 300,000 Tonnes
Pakistan exported 246,417 tonnes of high-sulphur furnace oil (HSFO) in the quarter. Monthly HSFO shipments were 29,853 tonnes in July, spiked to 123,269 tonnes in August, and fell to 93,295 tonnes in September.
Low-sulphur furnace oil (LSFO) exports totalled 52,597 tonnes, with 26,411 tonnes in July and 26,186 tonnes in September; none were exported in August.
Medium-sulphur furnace oil (MSFO) exports were 8,354 tonnes, all in July. Combined HSFO, MSFO and LSFO exports summed to 307,368 tonnes for July-September.
Naphtha exports reached 22,282 tonnes during the period, while no very-low-sulphur furnace oil (VLSFO) was shipped.
