The Federal Government has moved to a policy of daily adjustments for petrol and diesel prices, and on July 17, 2026, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) began revising ex-depot rates for these fuels every 24 hours to protect the economy from sharp market swings.

Under the latest revision, the price of Motor Spirit (MS), commonly called petrol, stayed the same, while High Speed Diesel (HSD) rose.

ProductPrevious Price(23/10/2026)Revised Price(24/10/2026)Difference
Motor Spirit (MS)Rs. 377.71Rs. 377.71-0.00
High Speed Diesel (HSD)Rs. 391.75Rs. 393.66+1.91

These daily adjustments will remain unchanged during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and public holidays.

The shift comes as the world faces its biggest energy-supply disruption since the 1970s. The 2026 US-Israel war on Iran sparked a global fuel crisis, and in late February Iran blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a route that handled about 25% of global seaborne oil trade. The United States responded with a naval blockade of Iranian ports.

A brief ceasefire in June gave hope, but the truce fell apart on July 8 after renewed attacks on commercial ships. Iran closed the strait again, prompting the US to launch airstrikes to reopen it. Ongoing crossfires and blockades continue to choke oil shipments, forcing OGRA to manage the situation with daily pump-price changes.
