The federal government has moved to a daily adjustment system for petrol and diesel, with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) beginning 24-hour revisions of ex-depot prices on July 17, 2026. The shift aims to protect the domestic economy from sharp market swings.

Under the new schedule, the price of Motor Spirit (MS), commonly called petrol, fell, while High Speed Diesel (HSD) rose.

ProductPrevious Price(22/10/2026)Revised Price(23/10/2026)Difference
Motor Spirit (MS)Rs. 379.31Rs. 377.71-1.60
High Speed Diesel (HSD)Rs. 390.11Rs. 391.75+1.64

These daily adjustments will remain unchanged during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and public holidays.

The change comes as a response to the biggest disruption to world energy supplies since the 1970s. The 2026 US-Israel war on Iran sparked a severe global fuel crisis. In late February, Iran blocked traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a chokepoint that handles about 25% of global seaborne oil trade, and the United States responded with a naval blockade of Iranian ports.

A brief ceasefire in June raised hopes, but the truce collapsed on July 8 after renewed attacks on commercial vessels. Iran shut the strait again, prompting the US military to launch successive airstrikes to reopen it. Ongoing crossfires and blockades continue to choke oil shipments, forcing OGRA to adopt daily price tweaks at the pump.
