Announcing central contracts for the 2026-27 season has been postponed by the Pakistan Cricket Board. This decision follows the national squad's underwhelming display during their recent trip to England, and modifications to the initial player roster are anticipated.

Insiders indicated these agreements span from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027. Before the squad left for the West Indies and England in July, the PCB explained the procedure to athletes and drew up a draft of 30 players. Yet, a series of losses in England, featuring a whitewash, halted the progression.

Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan might experience demotions, and board representatives might alter the draft prior to completion. Additional movement is anticipated once the squad concludes its upcoming home schedule.

An American firm created the software used to compile the initial roster by reviewing athletes' international and domestic output in every format. Selectors additionally applied a 15-point system to judge athletes based on current form, past achievements, and future potential.

Athletes who achieve scores between 50 and 60 points earn qualification for central agreements. The suggested agreement framework also places limits on playing in foreign tournaments. Test athletes will not obtain no-objection certificates for foreign tournaments, but they keep permission for red-ball county matches and alternative formats.

Athletes in different tiers will encounter distinct limitations, whereas Category C athletes will enjoy more latitude to join foreign tournaments. Multiple athletes allegedly prefer Category C placement to pursue foreign options while keeping themselves ready for national team assignments.

Top-tier athletes need to fulfill minimum international appearance criteria and take part in domestic matches, whereas Category D athletes do not have the international match obligation. Final tiers and agreements have not yet been made public by the PCB.
