Serious health hazards have prompted the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan to issue swift alerts concerning five counterfeit medicine batches found in Karachi.

Augmentin tablets, Velosef capsules, Nasomet nasal spray, No-Spa Forte 80mg tablets, and Mucaine syrup are the specific products impacted, stated DRAP.

Gastric irritation, muscle spasms, allergies, and bacterial infections are treated using these medications.

Counterfeit status was given to samples from all five batches by the Drug Testing Laboratory in Karachi.

National and multinational pharmaceutical company brand names were used to illegally manufacture and distribute the items to the market, according to the authority.

Quality, safety, and effectiveness remain unknown for these items, and the raw materials in the tested medicines could not be verified, the agency added.

Provincial drug control authorities and field teams received instructions to confiscate the affected batches from the market after DRAP cautioned that consuming these counterfeit goods could threaten lives.
