The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), together with Media Cast, announced the launch of the Pakistan Hockey League (PHL) 2027 in Islamabad, intending to revive the nation's sport, attract investment and raise playing standards.
The ceremony introduced a professional competition that will feature international players, local talent, corporate sponsors and team owners.
Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan, chairman of the Prime Minister's Youth Programme, attended as chief guest and reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting hockey.
He welcomed cooperation among government, private sector and the hockey community, saying the league and other development projects could help Pakistan regain its standing in international hockey.
PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani explained that the federation is pursuing long-term reforms, including better playing standards, upgraded infrastructure, expanded facilities, increased corporate investment and improved incentives for players.
Wani added that professional management, long-term planning and stronger public-private partnerships are vital for the sport's revival.
Salman Danish, owner of Media Cast, said his company will work with the PHF to run the league professionally, secure corporate sponsors and create a sustainable commercial model.
Organisers claim the league will boost commercial interest, raise competition standards, attract long-term investment and reconnect younger generations with Pakistan's hockey heritage.
Pakistan, once a leading force in international hockey, has struggled to keep its position in recent years; the league's success will hinge on securing investment, establishing a competitive structure and providing lasting development opportunities for players.
