Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi issued a warning to Pakistanis regarding online scammers who impersonate family members and pretend to be sick to trick people into transferring money.
During a briefing alongside NCCIA Additional Director Atif Ameer, the minister detailed surprising instances where fraudsters pose as nephews or relatives to request funds.
Certain fraudsters also pretend to be ill so their pleas seem authentic.
Numerous reports of this nature prompted the minister to urge cybercrime police to initiate public awareness campaigns, helping citizens spot and steer clear of these tricks.
He emphasized educating the community on these simple deception methods, noting that verification can stop them entirely.
Citizens must check who is asking for funds, especially when the voice sounds unfamiliar, prior to sending any money, he stated.
