Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif gave the green light to a pilot initiative for building 120 model villages during a meeting on Tuesday, alongside plans to introduce the Khushhal Dehat Act 2026 across the province. Officials briefed the chief minister on transforming rural settlements, and the session also concluded that a village committee should be formed in every location by consulting local public representatives.

CM Maryam Nawaz instructed officials to set up these committees without delay and present a thorough plan for the scheme. Every village committee will operate under the leadership of the relevant assistant commissioner, with the deputy commissioner supervising all groups and managing the entire project.

Membership of each village committee will consist of four government officials and four public representatives. The government members include the union council secretary, the head teacher, a doctor from a Maryam Nawaz Health Clinic or Basic Health Unit, and other pertinent personnel.

According to the briefing, the program will supply paved streets, drainage, and sewerage systems to all included villages. "Development is no longer limited to big cities; its benefits will reach every village," the chief minister stated.

She explained that community members will participate in planning and executing rural development efforts so that the work matches local requirements, noting that every village in Punjab will soon serve as an example for others.

Furthermore, she instructed officials to maintain high quality and transparency standards across all construction work. She announced that party ticket-holders and members of the provincial assembly will serve as overseers for development projects in their local areas.
