Authorities in Punjab issued 11,752 e-challans this month to motorists caught overloading vehicles, using intelligent cameras and the Virtual Traffic Management System operated by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority.

A representative for the Punjab Safe Cities Authority reported that officials documented 6,204 instances involving excess passengers and 5,548 cases of freight exceeding legal dimensions.

Enforcement officers receive immediate alerts from the monitoring network to stop violators quickly, targeting heavy transport like buses, trucks, and tractor-trolleys that create dangers by carrying too much weight.

Carrying extra passengers increases the chance of major crashes, and cargo sticking out past allowed limits puts surrounding drivers in peril.

Extending items such as steel bars and iron rods create special hazards for bike riders, who experience high dangers of deadly or serious harm during crashes. Surveillance equipment assists officials in spotting these infractions so crews can respond swiftly against violators.
