Rabies has killed an 11-year-old boy in Hyderabad following a stray dog attack that went untreated for months, as verified by the Sindh Health Department.

The young patient passed away while receiving care at Civil Hospital, also known as Liaquat University Hospital, in Hyderabad. Health officials reported that a dog bit his arm roughly two months ago, but the child kept silent, meaning he missed out on prompt anti-rabies shots.

Signs of rabies emerged four days prior to his hospital admission. District Health Officer Dr Pir Ghulam Hussain explained that the boy, named Inam from Latifabad, was initially brought to Jinnah Hospital in Karachi where medical staff diagnosed rabies, before moving to Liaquat University Hospital on October 13.

This fatality brings the total number of children dying from dog bites in Hyderabad district this year to four, according to health representatives. The incident contributes to a growing rabies death count across Sindh, which monitors estimate at nearly 40 deaths province-wide in 2026.

Why Early Treatment Matters

Physicians emphasize that rabies is nearly always fatal once physical signs manifest, yet it remains completely preventable if injuries are washed and immunizations are administered quickly after an attack. Anyone attacked or scratched by a canine must scrub the injury using soap and running water for a minimum of 15 minutes and pursue immediate medical attention.

Earlier in the month, Sindh documented another rabies fatality connected to a dog attack in Tharparkar, highlighting delays in fast post-exposure care throughout the region.
