Preparations are under way for the opening of the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR), with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz slated to officially launch the project on October 28 at the Banth Interchange on GT Road, the route's starting point.
The 38.3-kilometre corridor has been finished along its main alignment, featuring four interchanges at Banth, Chak Beli Khan, Adiala and Chakri. The toll-booth system is expected to be installed before the ceremony.
The tolling system has been handed over to the Punjab Ring Road Authority (PRRA) under the One Network company arrangement, making the authority responsible for its operation and upkeep.
The final interchange at Thalian, designed as a broad-based interchange, will be built later. For now, the Ring Road links to the motorway at Thalian without an interchange.
The Punjab Development Working Party (PDWP) approved the third revised PC-I for the scheme, valued at Rs50.4 billion, which also covers the construction cost of the Thalian broad-based interchange.
