Nine roads in Rawalpindi are scheduled for rehabilitation by the end of October, managed by the Punjab Communication and Works Department. This comes after the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation provided Rs. 1.6 billion to fund the initiatives.
Construction will take place on municipal roads handled by the Punjab Highways Department. According to a senior district administration official speaking to Dawn, activity starts once contractors are finalized.
Individual projects feature Khayaban-i-Sir Syed Road costing Rs. 213.466 million, Bokra Road at Rs. 226.454 million, and 5th Road upgrades totaling Rs. 138.525 million.
Additional repairs include Rawal Road between Ali Nawaz Chowk and Murree Road for Rs. 241.894 million, Chandni Chowk to Commercial Market Road at Rs. 115.718 million, and Railway Workshop Road for Rs. 247.871 million.
The list finishes with China Market to Gordon College Road priced at Rs. 138.318 million, Satellite Town 4th B Road costing Rs. 141.007 million, and Band Khana Road at Rs. 214.417 million. The official noted that the divisional administration gave the tasks to the C&W Department because the RMC could not handle them directly.
In a separate transfer, three major road initiatives formerly run by the District Council and Rawalpindi Development Authority now belong to the C&W Department. These projects cover Chakri Road, the route toward Falcon Chowk near Islamabad Expressway, and Chaudhry Bostan Khan Road from Chaklala Scheme-III to the Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench.
