A meeting of the Independent Monitoring Unit (IMU) chaired by Lt Gen (r) Nigar Johar, who sits on the Advisory Council for Health, examined health-facility performance and pushed for tighter staff attendance monitoring and accountability.
Attendees reiterated their pledge to foster discipline, transparency and accountability, aiming to provide the public with timely, higher-quality medical care.
Speaking to the group, Johar emphasized that every employee at government hospitals and health centres must maintain regular attendance and carry out their duties diligently.
She noted that quality health services rely on staff being present and on time, and warned that unauthorised absences would not be accepted.
Special focus was placed on facilities in underdeveloped and rural locations, where limited services often compel patients to travel to cities for treatment.
Johar instructed that a minimum attendance rate of 95 per cent be mandatory at health facilities in these areas to boost service delivery.
She also urged the creation of a formal system for accurate, transparent and reliable attendance tracking, directing that records from all health facilities, including District Headquarters, Tehsil Headquarters hospitals and basic health units, be linked to the Independent Monitoring Unit.
Centralised monitoring is expected to reinforce accountability, reveal absenteeism cases and allow authorities to act promptly against neglectful staff.
