At least 16 children and a schoolteacher lost their lives, while 47 people were injured when a school roof fell in the Dir Colony area of Peshawar.

Rescue 1122 reported the death count rose to 17, including the teacher.

The incident left a total of 47 individuals with injuries.

SP Peshawar City said rescue work is ongoing and officials are collecting information to establish how many pupils were enrolled at the school.

Early reports suggested roughly 75 children were present in three classrooms when the roof collapsed.

The injured are being taken to hospitals, and rescue crews are rushing to move the children out of the site.

Narrow streets in the neighbourhood are hindering rescue efforts and slowing the operation.

This is a developing story.
