Pakistan has started a Rs. 5.5 billion development scheme to convert Dera Ghazi Khan Airport into an international hub, targeting completion by January 2028.
The project seeks to boost air links, enhance travel amenities and generate new economic chances for people and firms throughout South Punjab.
Federal Energy Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari explained that the plan will lengthen the runway so it can handle international flights.
When finished, the upgraded airport should give residents of Dera Ghazi Khan and nearby districts better access to air travel, possibly aiding regional trade, investment and business.
In addition to the airport work, the city will see several other initiatives, including a new cancer hospital, road upgrades and a sewerage system designed to serve the area for the next 50 years.
These projects aim to reinforce key public services and meet long-standing infrastructure gaps.
The cancer hospital is expected to broaden specialised healthcare access, while improved roads and a modern sewer network should foster urban growth and better living conditions.
The airport upgrade, together with the other infrastructure plans, forms part of a wider development drive for Dera Ghazi Khan.
If the timetable holds, the initiatives could lift connectivity, health services, sanitation and economic outlook across South Punjab.
