Federal Minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari stated on Monday that the expansion work at Sardar Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari Airport in Dera Ghazi Khan should finish by January 2028.
While touring the facility, the minister reviewed the construction efforts and listened to a presentation by the Civil Aviation Authority regarding current status and future updates. The undertaking has a price tag of Rs. 5.5 billion and will extend the runway from 1.9 kilometers to 3 kilometers.
Officials will also expand the runway width from 100 feet to 200 feet. Upgrades involve putting in contemporary lighting for night arrivals, as well as constructing fresh waiting areas and other amenities for travelers.
Leghari mentioned that four large infrastructure initiatives are currently happening in Dera Ghazi Khan, which covers widening the Indus Highway.
He noted that Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif is advancing a cancer treatment facility in the municipality. Construction has also started on a drainage system built to serve the divisional headquarters for the next 50 years.
