Current and former senators will receive lifetime blue passports after the upper house passed a new piece of legislation today.
This benefit mirrors the existing privileges held by members of the National Assembly.
Lawmakers greenlit the Passport Act Amendment Bill during today's session, extending the special passport status for life to both sitting and retired members of the upper house.
Additionally, the Senate gave its approval to a Criminal Laws Amendment Bill.
Serving and retired senators gain lifetime blue passport privileges, aligning their travel documents with those of National Assembly members.
Both serving and retired senators will receive lifetime blue passports.
