On Wednesday, a Senate committee ordered an Airports Security Force official to appear at its upcoming session following complaints about improper behavior during bag and body checks at Karachi airport.
Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi led the Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges as they examined a privilege motion submitted by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri concerning the incident.
Other participants in the session included senior officials and Senators Jan Muhammad, Dost Ali Jaisar, Saadia Abbasi, Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan, and Bushra Anjum Butt.
Committee members discussed the findings of the inquiry report. Mr Mehdi informed the room that the response showed the staff member involved had already been moved to a different post.
According to Ms Abbasi, the problem impacts regular travelers alongside lawmakers, warning that this behavior risks generating bad public views of elected officials.
Ms Zehri raised questions about the laws granting staff the authority to inspect traveler luggage. She argued that inspections ought to happen strictly when safety demands it, and insisted the worker must attend to explain his behavior and cite his legal backing.
Mr Mehdi instructed that the employee and additional pertinent personnel must attend the upcoming committee session.
