Pakistan could see a price reduction for the Suzuki Alto under the proposed Automotive and Auto Parts Policy 2026-31, which aims to alter taxation for both new energy vehicles and conventional models.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif endorsed the final draft of the policy following months of talks. Authorities will send the text to the International Monetary Fund for review ahead of federal cabinet consent and a parliamentary bill.

Customs duty for conventional internal combustion engine cars and sport utility vehicles is set at 15 percent by 2031 under the new framework, without regulatory or additional charges. The plan also includes an internal combustion engine levy between 2 percent and 10 percent to push manufacturers toward higher export volumes.

Projections from The Express Tribune indicate the cost of a Suzuki Alto might drop to Rs. 2.845 million down from Rs. 3.2 million during the initial fiscal year of the framework, translating to an expected savings of Rs. 355,000.

This expected cost stems from newspaper calculations regarding the potential effects of the framework. Officials have not made any official price announcements, and the strategy awaits clearance from the International Monetary Fund and the federal cabinet.
