Pakistan is rolling out a five-year vehicle taxation and import duty framework that could make the Suzuki Cultus more affordable under a proposed government auto policy. On Tuesday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed off on the final text of the Automotive and Auto Parts Policy 2026-31. Before the federal cabinet reviews the draft, officials must submit it to the International Monetary Fund for clearance.

Following international approval, the administration plans to submit a bill to parliament to enact the suggested tax adjustments. Under the new guidelines, standard internal combustion engine vehicles and hybrid electric cars will face identical taxes and duties.

By 2031, customs duties for conventional sport utility vehicles and internal combustion engine cars will drop to 15 percent, dropping extra or regulatory duties entirely. Calculations by The Express Tribune suggest the Suzuki Cultus, which presently sells for Rs. 4.3 million, might drop to Rs. 3.8 million during the opening year of the framework, translating to a potential savings of Rs. 500,000.

These projected figures stem from calculations regarding the policy effects rather than an official pricing announcement. The framework still needs clearance from both the International Monetary Fund and the federal cabinet.
