Following a 22-year legal fight, the University of Peshawar secured control of a bungalow valued at Rs. 5 billion situated in University Town on Friday, October 16.
The estate sits on Gul Maher Lane, covers over nine kanals, and was given to the institution by the late Begum Kulsoom Amin Durrani through a registered waqf deed on January 2, 1974.
Revenue produced by the asset was designated for student welfare, intended to support up to 350 scholarships for needy learners throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The court fight began on September 21, 2004, when the university filed a case in a civil court for ownership and control of the land.
A civil court named the estate a waqf on June 22, 2013, acknowledged the university as mutawalli, and prohibited the opposing parties from transferring or selling it.
An appeal against the decision was rejected by the Additional District Judge-II, Peshawar, on November 15, 2023.
Later, the Peshawar High Court removed the stay order on March 23, 2025, and threw out the civil revision petitions from the opposing side on October 15, 2026.
Prior to that, on October 9, the executing court instructed the SSP Operations, Peshawar, to supply police support to the court bailiff for enforcing the takeover.
The legal process wrapped up when the court bailiff transferred the bungalow to the registrar of the university on Friday, October 16, following the directives of the court.
