The Islamabad High Court on Friday levied a Rs200,000 penalty on Advocate Siraj Ahmed after he filed a petition deemed frivolous and without merit, according to 24NewsHD TV.

Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro ordered the fine and instructed the lawyer to deposit the amount into the national exchequer.

The court also ruled that until the fine is paid, the lawyer may not enter the administrative or judicial sections of the High Court.

However, he will be permitted to come onto the court grounds solely to appear in cases that are scheduled for hearing.

The judgment noted that the petitioner failed to present satisfactory arguments to counter objections about the petition's maintainability and did not show that the issue was already before 'Bench I' of the High Court.

It was observed that the petition was drafted in an extremely frivolous manner, falling short of required legal drafting standards and procedural norms.

The court remarked that the lawyer's conduct was inappropriate both in preparing the application and during the court appearance.

Previously, the court had shown restraint in a similar incident involving the same lawyer, and it highlighted a pattern of frivolous behavior in his own cases.

Directions were issued to forward a copy of the order to the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, the Islamabad Bar Council and the District Bar Association.
