Artificial intelligence firm Anthropic unveiled a Public Benefit Fund, pledging 5 percent of company shares toward projects aimed at helping society.

Functioning as a fully owned subsidiary inside Anthropic, the organization will provide the business with increased scale and flexibility for backing public benefit programs, according to the firm.

As the company value climbs by 50 percent increments, Anthropic might allocate another 2 percent of its shares.

Fund Could Support Nonprofits and Direct Payments

Exact spending plans for the fund remain undecided by Anthropic.

Still, the business explained that money might go toward substantial grants for conventional nonprofit groups alongside direct cash payments to targeted groups.

This structure allows Anthropic adaptability for trying different methods while artificial intelligence consequences unfold.

Anthropic Is Already Studying AI's Impact on Jobs

A previous commitment of $200 million from the enterprise went toward studying how artificial intelligence affects employment and the economy.

Even so, rapid advancements in artificial intelligence might demand larger actions, per Anthropic.

"Given the pace of AI progress, bolder approaches may be needed," the organization stated, noting that the new fund holds the adaptability to carry them out.

Announcement Comes Amid Growing AI Distrust

This decision arrives while public opinion toward the artificial intelligence sector turns increasingly hostile.

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, previously characterized the negative reaction against artificial intelligence as "fundamentally a crisis of trust."

Leadership has not yet disclosed who will choose the projects receiving grants from the Public Benefit Fund.

Additional details regarding governance and organization will be shared by the firm in upcoming months.
