A province-wide operation targeting vehicles with fake, cloned, or altered number plates was initiated by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA), using surveillance tools across 43 smart safe cities such as Lahore.

Instant alerts are automatically triggered by Safe City cameras when suspicious registration plates are detected, according to a PSCA spokesperson. Vehicles featuring plates blocked by tape, cloth, or alternative materials are also tracked by this technology.

Following surveillance system warnings, authorities successfully tracked down and intercepted multiple suspicious vehicles throughout Lahore and other regions of Punjab, the spokesperson noted. Relevant police squads received immediate notifications from control room personnel to intervene.

Individuals operating vehicles with fake, cloned, or altered registration plates currently face legal actions, such as the filing of formal cases, the spokesperson stated.

Concealing plates or modifying registration details is met with a zero-tolerance stance by the authority. Motorists were encouraged by the organization to display authentic, authorized plates corresponding to their registration documents. Citizens were additionally advised by the PSCA to notify Police Helpline 15 if they discover unauthorized use of their vehicle registration numbers on different cars.
