Arsenal head to Fleetwood this evening for the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, with supporters noticing that Martin Zubimendi is sporting a face mask for the journey north.

The Gunners secured their spot in this stage by defeating Ipswich 4-2 previously. Max Dowman shone in that fixture, as the 16-year-old netted two goals at Portman Road.

Arsenal now face League Two side Fleetwood, who occupy 18th place in the standings following only three league victories this campaign.

Why is Martin Zubimendi wearing a mask against Fleetwood?

Martin Zubimendi is wearing a face mask because he broke his nose in Arsenal's 2-0 victory against Everton on Saturday.

The Spanish player entered as a substitute as the Gunners tied with Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League standings.

Zubimendi, aged 27, appeared to take a blow to the face from Everton forward Thierno Barry while contesting the ball.

The player had to leave the pitch for medical attention as blood streamed from his nose.

He managed to complete the match but only by keeping tissue packed inside his right nostril.

Zubimendi's nose is believed to be broken, which necessitates a protective mask for him to play.

He has made just one start during this season, which occurred at Ipswich in the preceding round.

The midfielder was a starter for Arsenal during the previous campaign, though summer arrival Bruno Guimaraes has pushed him down the hierarchy.

The performances of Myles Lewis-Skelly have also restricted his playing time, and he will be keen to feature tonight.

Zubimendi has experienced poor fortune with injuries this year, having sustained an ankle injury earlier this month during the warm-down following a 2-1 triumph over Leeds.

When do Arsenal play next?

Following tonight's Carabao Cup fixture, the Gunners take on a major trip to play Liverpool at Anfield.

During this fixture last term, Liverpool triumphed 1-0 courtesy of a brilliant free-kick by Dominik Szoboszlai at the Kop End.

The game is set for Sunday, November 1 on Merseyside, with the start time fixed at 4.30pm GMT.

The major fixture will be televised on Sky Sports Main Event, or available to stream live on NOW TV.
