Luxury Smartphone Customization and the Zodiac Collection
Luxury smartphone customization company Caviar has introduced a new Zodiac collection for Apple's foldable iPhone Duo, allowing buyers to personalize their phones with precious metals, gemstones, exotic leather, and even meteorite fragments.
The collection features 12 zodiac-inspired designs, with prices starting at approximately $14,800. Customers can choose their preferred materials and finishes through an online configurator rather than purchasing a fixed design.
Caviar says the collection offers more than one million possible combinations for each zodiac sign, giving buyers extensive control over the appearance of their devices. This launch represents a shift toward modular online personalization within the ultra-luxury mobile sector, moving away from static luxury smartphone releases.
How the Online Configurator Works
The Zodiac collection features designs inspired by all 12 astrological signs, with a decorative zodiac wheel and constellation elements on the back.
Customers begin by selecting their zodiac sign, which loads a default design. They can then customize the phone's frame, back panel, zodiac circle, and central medallion.
Available frame materials include silver, gold plating, natural titanium, and titanium with a black PVD coating.
For the rear panel, buyers can choose forged carbon or different types of leather, including calfskin, python, and crocodile leather.
Decorative options include Swarovski crystals, gemstones, jewelry enamel, and meteorite inlays. Caviar also offers textured metal finishes, including clous de Paris and chevron patterns.
The company says these options allow customers to create approximately 15 million design combinations across the collection.
Unlike conventional online shopping, customers cannot complete their purchase directly through the configurator.
After finalizing a design, the website generates a unique code that must be shared with a Caviar sales manager. The manager then confirms the final price and processes the custom order.
Pricing Structure and Specific Model Configurations
The default Capricorn model, featuring a black titanium frame and forged carbon back panel, starts at an estimated $14,800.
Meanwhile, the Aquarius configuration, which uses silver and navy crocodile leather, costs approximately $18,615.
Both models are based on the 256GB iPhone Duo, which has a standard starting price of $1,999.
The final price depends on material selections, meaning rare additions such as specific gemstones or meteorite pieces adjust the baseline cost upward from the entry point.
Because the base device itself requires procurement by the workshop before exterior rebuilding begins, buyers pay a substantial premium for the labor, precious components, and engineering required to alter a folding device safely.
Quality Assurance and Testing Procedures
Altering a modern foldable smartphone introduces unique engineering challenges, particularly regarding mechanical stress points and screen integrity.
Caviar says each customized iPhone Duo undergoes additional hinge and display testing before delivery and comes with a 12-month warranty.
This testing phase ensures that the integration of heavy materials, metals, and exotic leathers does not interfere with the folding mechanism or the internal displays unique to the iPhone Duo architecture.
The 12-month warranty covers structural and material integrity applied during the workshop modification process.
Caviar's Prior Luxury Releases and Market Context
The Zodiac collection follows several other expensive iPhone modifications introduced by Caviar.
In October, the company launched its World Treasures collection, featuring customized iPhone Duo models costing up to $90,000 and incorporating materials such as 18K gold, platinum, and diamonds.
Caviar also previously introduced Black Edition versions of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo, featuring redesigned bodies without functioning cameras.
The new Zodiac collection takes a different approach by allowing customers to choose their own combinations of materials instead of purchasing a predetermined luxury design.
Understanding the Ultra-Luxury Mobile Market
The market for heavily customized consumer technology caters to high-net-worth individuals seeking exclusivity beyond standard commercial flagships.
By using rare inputs like meteorite fragments and precious metals, workshops like Caviar transform mass-produced electronics into bespoke jewelry pieces.
The inclusion of the foldable iPhone Duo as a canvas demonstrates how manufacturers and customizers adapt to new form factors, using larger surface areas on the back panels to display intricate artwork like zodiac wheels and constellation patterns.
As consumer electronics evolve, the demand for personalized aesthetics continues to drive the market for artisan device modifications.
