Supporters mocked Andrey Arshavin heavily following his unexpected reaction to Harry Kane securing the Ballon d'Or.
The 45-year-old former Arsenal winger traveled to the London Palladium to attend the annual ceremony.
Arshavin observed as Kane became the first Englishman in 25 years to claim the prestigious trophy.
However, the triumph of the Bayern Munich and England striker did not receive universal approval.
Video footage spread widely showing Arshavin sticking his tongue out in disgust after Brazilian legend Ronaldo named Kane as the Ballon d'Or winner.
Supporters rushed to online platforms on Monday to condemn the Russian former player for his immediate response.
One critic posted the comment, "Pathetic."
Another user remarked sharply, "He rarely scored double figures in his career so maybe he's jealous."
A third person wrote, "Bottle his tears and post them to me."
A fourth supporter of Kane stated, "Proves he has no class."
A fifth commenter asserted, "He is not fit to lace Harry's boots."
Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele also faced accusations of showing disrespect toward the 33-year-old Kane.
The latter individual appeared distracted by his mobile phone while the England captain walked past during the glamorous gathering.
Arshavin concluded his playing career in 2018 after representing Zenit Saint-Petersburg, Arsenal, Kuban Krasnodar, and Kairat.
Ten years prior to retiring, the former midfielder placed sixth in the voting for the Ballon d'Or.
That achievement followed his role in leading Russia to a surprise third-place finish at Euro 2008.
