Pakistan Railways ordered private train operators to provide discounted tickets, railway passes, privilege ticket orders, and other travel concessions to eligible passengers after receiving numerous complaints about operators denying these facilities.
The Office of the Chief Commercial Manager at Pakistan Railways Headquarters in Lahore sent these directives to S. Jamil & Company, ZKB-BT JV, AA Enterprises, Prime Rail, and Lasani Cargo.
Operators received repeated orders to grant concessions to qualified travelers, such as senior citizens, journalists, persons with disabilities, and railway workers, according to the letter.
Authorities referenced Clause 5.15 of their contracts, mandating that private operators respect railway employee travel perks, privilege and post-retirement passes, duty and privilege ticket orders, special passes, and other relevant discounts.
Pakistan Railways stated that these privileges stay valid on outsourced trains, and the applicable concessionary quota remains accessible until 48 hours before departure.
The department mentioned getting many complaints via the Pakistan Citizen Portal and the Wafaqi Mohtasib concerning the denial of these privileges to qualified travelers.
Travelers who experience a refusal of valid concessions should submit complaints to appropriate railway officials for quick action, the department advised.
Pakistan Railways instructed all involved operators to guarantee prompt and rigorous compliance with their agreements and supply all permitted travel discounts according to current railway policies and rules.
