ANDY BURNHAM entered No10 in July promising to unleash a huge political earthquake.
Chief Political Correspondent Martina Bet examines what the Prime Minister has achieved during his first 100 days in office.
COST OF LIVING
On the steps of No10, Burnham promised to make everyday life cheaper and give the public breathing space. He capped bus fares at £2 from January 2027 and made consumer tweaks on parking fines and subscription traps. However, annual inflation climbed from 3.1 per cent in August to 3.5 per cent in September, while the war in Iran pushed petrol to 169.5p a litre and diesel to 192.5p.
DEFENCE
John Healey quit as Sir Keir Starmer's Defence Secretary in June over Armed Forces funding, but now serves as Chancellor holding the purse strings. He has failed to present a plan for defence spending to reach three per cent of GDP by 2030, which would cost up to £17.3billion more annually.
ENERGY
Burnham removed VAT on electricity to ease bills, saving a typical household about £45 a year, or 86p a week. That saving was wiped out by the Ofgem price cap rising to £1,723 in October, with industry forecasts warning it could reach £2,150 in January.
DEBT
National debt has surpassed £3trillion, and the Government borrowed £24.5billion in September alone. Debt interest cost the Treasury £10.9billion in that single month, amounting to over £350million a day.
IMMIGRATION
Small boat crossings continue with larger vessels, including a dinghy carrying 230 people arriving in August, and a one in one out deal has collapsed. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood wants some migrants to wait up to 15 years for permanent settlement, sparking a Labour civil war.
BREXIT
Burnham has suggested reinstating freedom of movement and potentially re-joining the European Union during a series of recent remarks. No10 spent a day clarifying his comments made over the weekend.
WELFARE
Health and disability payments are forecast to cost £90.4billion this financial year. An inquiry led by Alan Milburn into young people neither earning nor learning has been delayed until November at the earliest.
TIKTOK
The Prime Minister has focused heavily on social media clips and a charity appearance on Gogglebox with Liverpool mayor Steve Rotheram.
