Starting October 15, 2026, the Islamabad Traffic Police will shut down the stretch between Rawal Dam Chowk and Kashmir Chowk until further notice, telling drivers to pick different routes.

This shutdown impacts people driving between Islamabad and Rawalpindi, along with travelers going toward Park Road, Lehtrar Road, Murree, and Barkahu.

Drivers moving from G-5, the Secretariat, and Serena Hotel toward Rawalpindi receive advice to use Srinagar Highway and Ninth Avenue, or take Srinagar Highway, Mehrabad, and Peshawar Road.

Travellers going toward Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road, and Lehtrar Road have permission to drive via Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, Shakarparian Road, Tulip Hotel, and Rawal Dam Road.

Individuals driving to Murree and Bhara Kahu can route through Faizabad, Faisal Avenue, Zero Point, Srinagar Highway, and Jinnah Square Underpass.

Drivers coming into Islamabad from Rawalpindi need to use Ninth Avenue, Faqir Aipee Road, and Srinagar Highway, while those moving from Park Road and Lehtrar Road toward Islamabad can take Tulip Hotel Road, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian Road, and Seventh Avenue.

Authorities warned drivers to anticipate traffic jams on detour paths and depart from their houses 20 to 25 minutes ahead of their normal schedule. Traffic officers will guide drivers through the shutdown, while the Islamabad Traffic Police plans to post bulletins on their FM 92.4 radio broadcast and social media accounts.
