Sui Southern Gas Company, known as SSGC, stated that its 24-inch Sher Shah mainline will undergo an overnight shutdown for repair tasks, while cautioning that any delay might result in low gas pressure across multiple Karachi districts.
The suspension of supply is set to start at 10 pm on Saturday and finish at 9 am on Sunday.
The utility provider indicated that gas pressure may drop in Baldia Town, Ittehad Town, Saeedabad, Naval Colony, Musharraf Colony, and Mawach Goth if the maintenance work takes longer than planned.
Certain sections of Orangi Town, such as Gulshan-e-Bahar, Gulshan-e-Zia, Sector 16, and Ghaziabad, may face impacts as well. Additional locations that could experience issues include Altaf Nagar, Mehran City, Ramzan Goth, and the SITE Industrial Area.
The advisory from SSGC addresses a potential drop in pressure if the work runs overtime, rather than a confirmed total halt of service in every mentioned neighborhood.
In a separate development, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik instructed the board of SSGC to formulate a long-term business plan, placing special focus on lowering unaccounted-for gas.
At a performance evaluation meeting held in Karachi, officials informed attendees that gas losses dropped by approximately 57 percent by volume. The gathering also heard that households are supplied with gas three times each day.
