Recent heavy rainfall caused a fatal school building collapse in Peshawar that left dozens of people dead, according to the private institution's owner, prompting the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to launch an official investigation.
Khan Muhammad, who owns the school, stated that workers laid the foundation roughly 18 months ago and that severe downpours lashed the region for multiple days prior to the disaster.
The second-floor room gave way first and dragged down the classrooms located underneath, Muhammad explained, noting that about 30 pupils sat in that specific room during the incident out of roughly 350 total enrolled students.
Instructors were summoned by the owner to assist in getting the children out safely right after the structure came down.
Inayatullah Waseem, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Secretary, countered that the facility was dilapidated, noting that the education department received no prior warnings about the structural integrity.
An investigation team is now active to uncover the root causes of the disaster, Waseem reported.
Provincial authorities will evaluate all public and private schools across KP to check their safety and stop future tragedies, Waseem stated, adding that the government will pay for the medical treatment of all hurt children.
