A Dolphin Force officer assigned to secure the tri-nation ODI cricket series in Rawalpindi was injured when his own rifle unintentionally discharged while on duty.
The officer was patrolling the security route for the series involving Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England and was taken to a hospital immediately after the incident.
Rifle Fell During Patrol Duty
Officials said the officer was on patrol along the stretch from Double Road to Faizabad when his rifle slipped to the ground.
Following standard operating procedures, he retrieved the weapon and removed its magazine.
Bullet Hit His Foot
Authorities reported that the rifle became loaded after the fall, with a round moving into the chamber.
To verify the chamber was empty, the officer aimed the rifle at the ground and pulled the trigger; it fired, and the bullet struck his foot.
