Punjab is seeking to boost trade with Saudi Arabia after Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met the newly appointed Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Rajih Al-Baqmi, media reports said.
During the encounter, the chief minister welcomed the ambassador, congratulated him on his diplomatic duties and thanked Saudi leadership for ongoing economic and financial support to Pakistan.
Talks centered on deepening cooperation between Punjab and Saudi Arabia, especially in trade. Punjab has set a target of exporting more than Rs500 billion worth of goods to the Saudi market.
The planned export growth will include livestock, beef, poultry, mangoes, potatoes and shrimp, reflecting the province's push to increase its share of Saudi demand with locally produced items.
CM Maryam also emphasized the close bond between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, stating that the Saudi leadership, particularly the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and the Saudi people hold a special place in the hearts of Pakistanis.
She said the relationship is rooted in long-standing historical, religious and cultural ties.
The meeting also allowed discussion of future cooperation and ways to further develop bilateral economic ties. Punjab's export goal could open new opportunities for farmers, livestock producers, food businesses and exporters if trade links expand.
The talks occur as Pakistan continues to pursue stronger economic partnerships with Saudi Arabia and greater market access for its products abroad.
