A new ordinance drafted by the Crime Control Department in Punjab introduces severe punishments such as life imprisonment and property confiscation for individuals caught holding illegal weapons, pending approval from the Punjab governor.

Owners of unauthorized firearms will receive a 15-day grace period to hand them over willingly under the new legislation. Anyone caught possessing an illegal gun following this expiration date risks facing life imprisonment alongside the seizure of their assets.

The draft legislation also permits overseas Pakistanis to turn in unauthorized weapons via designated agents, offering an avenue for residents abroad to follow the rules.

Additional Inspector General Sohail Zafar Chattha will direct the statewide campaign to seize illegal arms, according to the plans.

Final enforcement of the surrender period and strict penalties depends on the official enactment of the measure by the Punjab governor, as the Crime Control Department has finalized the text.
