Following a province-wide safety evaluation, the Punjab Communication and Works Department labeled buildings at 143 public schools in the Rawalpindi district as either entirely or partially hazardous.

The Punjab administration ordered these checks following the collapse of a private school structure in Peshawar. To execute this, the District Education Authority Rawalpindi established 47 squads to evaluate the structural integrity of schools throughout the region.

Results indicate that 143 impacted schools feature structures with 20% to 80% deterioration, creating hazards for pupils and personnel.

Government Pahlavi High School for Boys, situated close to Barani University within Rawalpindi city, ranks among the most severely damaged facilities.

Officials deemed its structure entirely hazardous, ordered an immediate evacuation, and temporarily moved students to Zarai Farm School.

Yasin Baloch, CEO of District Education Authority Rawalpindi, stated that the majority of these institutions feature partially compromised structures, such as boundary walls, blocks, and classrooms.

He noted that urgent repairs are underway for facilities with minor damage, whereas rebuilding proposals for severely compromised structures have gone to the Punjab government. Construction will begin upon the disbursement of necessary funds.

Baloch mentioned that personnel evacuated dangerous areas, and teaching continues in alternative locations.

In addition, officials started safety checks for private schools throughout Rawalpindi based on provincial directives. The 47 evaluation teams should submit their findings this week.
