Saudi authorities put two citizens of Bangladesh to death following their conviction for an indecent act inside a Makkah mosque, the Saudi Ministry of Interior stated.
Wednesday, October 14, 2026, matching 3 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH, marked the day the ministry made the announcement, with the punishment taking place in the Makkah area.
Nadhar Al-Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akter were named as the two citizens from Bangladesh.
The Interior Ministry reported that the pair carried out an indecent act inside a mosque located in the Holy Capital, a designation applied by Saudi officials to Makkah, though the specific mosque remained unnamed.
Law enforcement agencies in Saudi Arabia detained the pair following the incident.
Investigators charged the suspects formally after completing inquiries and sent the matter to the proper court.
Court Sentences Both to Death
The court determined the charges against the accused were established and ordered their execution through ta'zir, which is a discretionary penalty under Islamic jurisprudence.
The ministry explained that the court handed down the ruling due to the grave nature of the crime and the violation of the sanctity of the location and time.
The ruling reached final status after higher judicial bodies confirmed it.
Execution of the punishment proceeded after the issuance of a royal order approving the court verdict.
The Makkah region was the site where Saudi officials carried out the executions of Nadhar Al-Islam Abdul Basir and Siti Akter on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Saudi Interior Ministry Issues Warning
Quranic verses addressing corruption, wrongdoing on earth, and penalties for serious disorder opened the official statement from the Interior Ministry.
The ministry concluded by stating that the government stays dedicated to upholding public safety, enforcing justice, and applying Islamic law against individuals who breach the sanctity of houses of worship and harm public honor.
A warning was also issued stating that anyone contemplating similar behavior would encounter penalties set by Islamic law.
