Outraged supporters criticized Sky Sports over their broadcast of Everton defeating Newcastle in the Carabao Cup.
The Toffees secured a 3-1 triumph against their Premier League opponents to advance to the quarter-finals.
Instead of appearing on the network main football channels, the match streamed on Sky Sports Plus.
This choice meant zero presenters, pundits, or commentators were present at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Viewer dissatisfaction surged among those watching Everton eliminate Newcastle, a game where Everton played without Jack Grealish following a breach of club discipline.
Supporters took to social media platforms to condemn network executives for the disputed decision.
One viewer stated, Now we are having to listen to two commentators stuck in a cupboard somewhere because Sky are too tight to send them to the game! Can barely hear the crowd.
Another added, So Sky Sports have the rights to show the Everton v Newcastle EFL Cup game but have chosen to hide it behind the red button whilst showing League Two highlights on their dedicated Sky Sports Football channel?! Bizarre!!!
A third posted, Am I a f***ing idiot? I am on Sky Sports Plus, I have got the red button and there is only the choice of f***ing tennis courts. Why is Everton v Newcastle not on a normal channel?
A fourth wrote, Sky Sports have two football channels, and they are not showing the Everton vs Newcastle game on either one and are instead hiding it behind Sky Sports Plus. Make it make sense.
A fifth claimed, Cheap night for Sky with no presenters. Why could not they get one ex-Everton and one ex-Newcastle player on to host.
Sky Sports defended their transmission approach for the fourth round fixture on Merseyside.
A spokesperson explained, While it was an unusual viewing experience for Premier League supporters, Sky Sports regularly show Carabao Cup and EFL fixtures via Sky Sports Plus with commentary delivered from a remote studio for the feed.
The spokesperson added, The Everton vs Newcastle match was shown via a Sky Sports Plus stream which is separate from the linear channel, which showed tennis at the time.
Everton, who secured an upcoming away fixture against giant-killing Fleetwood, established their lead through goals from James Garner, Hayden Hackney, and Thierno Barry.
Newcastle managed a late consolation courtesy of Dan Burn but failed to complete a remarkable comeback.
