Publisher Konami and developer Screen Burn launched Silent Hill: Townfall Update 1.6 on October 29, bringing a fresh difficulty setting just ahead of Halloween alongside several gameplay improvements for PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Launched initially on September 24, Silent Hill: Townfall is the newest installment in Konami's ongoing horror series revival, following the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f. The game takes place on the remote Scottish island community of St. Amelia, where main character Simon Ordell investigates a dark mystery using first-person stealth, puzzles, and exploration.

While reviewers commended the creepy mood and narrative, public feedback after release was mixed due to awkward stealth encounters and technical bugs. Screen Burn has put out multiple patches to address shader compilation stutter and user feedback, with Update 1.6 carrying on that work.

New Hard Mode and Stealth Rebalancing

As reported by Game Rant on October 29, Update 1.6 adds a Hard difficulty setting placed between Normal and Nightmare. Screen Burn also adjusted all four difficulty levels to provide a better pacing curve across the story.

The patch alters resource placement in certain areas and scales enemy hearing based on the selected difficulty. Players can now also view their precise map coordinates on every difficulty level.

Update 1.6 changes the behavior of an enemy known as The Weight, which drew complaints at launch for camping near objectives and instantly killing Simon. A previous October 8 patch reduced its aggression and swapped instant kills for heavy damage on Story and Normal modes. Update 1.6 now limits that reduced attack power strictly to Story Mode, keeping the intended challenge on Normal and higher settings.

Silent Hill: Townfall Update 1.6 Key Highlights and PC Upgrades

Along with combat and stealth tweaks, Update 1.6 brings quality-of-life, accessibility, and technical enhancements. PC users now gain support for Nvidia DLSS Ray Reconstruction, which enhances ray-traced visuals, though Konami did not state if frame rates improve.

The update also updates difficulty descriptions and displays a warning when picking Nightmare difficulty on a first run. For accessibility, valve status lighting was improved to help colorblind players see visual cues. The patch includes new tutorials, revised puzzle hints, reorganized options menus, and clearer keyboard and mouse settings.

Silent Hill: Townfall releases during a franchise revival that includes the Silent Hill 2 remake and Silent Hill f. While Konami has not announced a sequel or story expansion for Townfall, ongoing patches aim to improve player reception as fans return to St. Amelia for Halloween.
