Martin Odegaard Secures Vital Win for Arsenal Against Hull

Martin Odegaard snatched all three points for Arsenal as they ensured they will go into the International break on top of the table. The Gunners had to fight hard to topple a feisty Hull side, but Odegaard's second-half winner was enough to keep breathing space between them and their title rivals. The Arsenal captain tidily tucked home from inside the box after Noni Madueke's drilled effort was parried by Hull stopper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

The narrow triumph highlights the resilience required in modern English football when facing stubborn opponents who pack the defence. While several attacking players struggled to find their clinical edge, the collective defensive effort and moments of individual brilliance proved decisive. Here is a detailed breakdown of how each Arsenal player performed during the encounter.

Goalkeeper and Defensive Line Ratings

David Raya earned a rating of 7 after an overall assured performance between the posts. Despite a shaky moment when he could not get hold of a loose ball in the box from a first-half corner, he made a few good saves down low to stop a shock from the visitors.

Jurrien Timber also received a 7. The Dutchman's defensive strengths help balance Arsenal out at the back when Calafiori is playing and this game was no different. Timber still looked like he could cause problems in the opposition's half with some smart runs to stretch the Hull defence.

Ezri Konsa matched his defensive partners with a 7. William Saliba's omission from the match-day squad silenced any talk of Konsa displacing the Frenchman for now, but another strong showing from the defender evidenced why Saliba will have a tall task on his hands to get back into the team when he is back to full fitness.

Gabriel Magalhaes rounded out the central defenders with a 7, remaining as assured as always with some nice passing to help break through Hull's press at times. Credit has to go to Gabriel for the way he has adapted to Konsa too, not just the other way around.

Riccardo Calafiori received a 6. A few of his signature marauding runs helped cause havoc in the Hull box in the first half, but manager Mikel Arteta ultimately sacrificed the Italian for Piero Hincapie in the second half to offer more defensive stability when rolling the dice on some other attacking changes.

Midfield Control and Contributions

Bruno Guimaraes earned a 7 for a good showing from the Brazilian, who is settling into this Arsenal team now. His desire to be a difference-maker and match-winner is admirable, but can sometimes lead to him making rash decisions and taking unnecessary pop-shots.

Declan Rice also secured a 7 following another commanding performance from Arsenal's midfield general. His powerful runs from deep helped Arsenal to progress the ball forward at times, while his defensive contribution is always invaluable. However, his passing was wayward at times and Arsenal could have done with Myles Lewis-Skelly alongside him.

Martin Odegaard stood out with an 8 rating. A lot of pressure is lumped on the Arsenal captain to find the answer against teams that try and starve the Gunners of chances, and he made some clever passes in-behind that could have amassed to more if it wasn't for some sloppy forward play. Ultimately, he had to take matters into his own hands and took the winner like a veteran striker.

Winger and Forward Performances

Noni Madueke matched his captain with an 8. The winger has a point to prove after being left out of Thomas Tuchel's England squad and he played like it too, always looking to find a route into the box whether by carrying it in himself or delivering a ball into the danger zone. Bukayo Saka's injury was always going to be a huge loss for the Gunners, but Madueke has stepped up in a big way to fill the gap.

Christos Tzolis received a 7. He kept popping up in dangerous areas, but was snatching at his efforts and never managed to make the most of the chances he did get. He still offered more threat on the left wing than Eberechi Eze has in recent weeks, but looks like he needs more time to return to his early-season form.

Kai Havertz endured a tough afternoon, reflected in his score of 5. He kept making the right runs in-behind the Hull back line, but seemed to freeze when he got in front of goal. His tendency to drift offside has become a point of frustration for a lot of Arsenal fans and was evident when VAR ruled out a first-half penalty shout for his early run. Havertz has now been offside seven more times than any other Premier League player this season.

Impact of the Substitutes Bench

Viktor Gyokeres replaced Havertz in the 63rd minute and earned a 6. He was not given enough time to fully settle into the side, but made some good runs when Arsenal broke from the back.

Mikel Merino came on for Rice at the same time, also receiving a 6. He helped gain more control in midfield and offered threat in the box.

Eberechi Eze stepped in for Tzolis in the 68th minute and picked up a 7 for a positive cameo in which he was looking to create whenever he had the ball.

Piero Hincapie replaced Calafiori in the 68th minute, earning a 7 as he shored things up at the back to see out the three points.

Martin Zubimendi entered the fray for Guimaraes in the 89th minute, receiving a rating of N/A due to the short duration of his appearance.
