Canada revealed modifications to its Express Entry immigration process, allowing skilled professionals to gain extra points for domestic work experience or employment offers in high-wage jobs. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada stated that the updates begin on November 3, 2026, and eliminate specific Labour Market Impact Assessment mandates for eligible employment proposals.
Based on the updated Comprehensive Ranking System, applicants possessing at least one year of qualifying Canadian work experience in a high-wage job can secure an extra 20, 40, or 70 points based on their wage bracket. Additionally, candidates with qualifying high-wage job offers can obtain 50, 70, or 100 points according to the salary proposed. Individuals who qualify in both areas will be awarded whichever choice yields a higher score, because the two options cannot be merged.
The highest possible score under the updated labor market integration category reaches 150 points for candidates applying without a spouse or common-law partner, and 140 points for those who have one. Another major modification is the elimination of the Labour Market Impact Assessment mandate for eligible job offers used to claim the new Comprehensive Ranking System points. Specific candidates invited starting November 3 will also bypass Labour Market Impact Assessment mandates for employment offers applied to determine eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program and Federal Skilled Trades Program, depending on exact conditions.
As an alternative, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada will evaluate job proposals directly to confirm their validity, checking if employers run legitimate companies, fulfill employment conditions, and follow applicable labor regulations. Candidates must likewise possess the proper credentials to execute the proposed tasks, and canceled job offers will no longer be eligible. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada recommended that individuals who might qualify for employment offer points check and modify their Express Entry profiles prior to November 3. Yet, the agency pointed out that extra points do not ensure an invitation to apply for permanent residence, because selection remains reliant on eligibility criteria and Comprehensive Ranking System cutoff scores.
