Maxence Lacroix was seen hobbling off the pitch, clutching his hamstring, during Chelsea's Carabao Cup visit to Anfield.

The £52million summer acquisition has featured in every Premier League game for the Blues this season except one.

Seeing him gingerly exit just before the break will have been disappointing for manager Xabi Alonso.

Lacroix, positioned as the right-sided centre-back in a back-four, pulled up while closing down Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo.

The 26-year-old French defender was substituted by Levi Colwill two minutes into first-half stoppage time.

The fourth-round match was level at 1-1, with Morgan Rogers and Gakpo converting penalties minutes earlier.
