Daily adjustments to petrol and diesel prices have officially begun by the Federal Government, taking effect on July 17, 2026. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority started revising ex-depot petroleum prices every 24 hours to protect the domestic economy from extreme market fluctuations.

Consumers are seeing mixed results from the updated rates. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority lowered the cost of Motor Spirit, also called petrol, while High Speed Diesel climbed higher.

Motor Spirit dropped from Rs. 379.25 to Rs. 376.06, marking a decrease of Rs. 3.19. High Speed Diesel rose from Rs. 395.82 to Rs. 398.07, representing an increase of Rs. 2.25.

These daily adjustments will remain unchanged during weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and public holidays.

Global energy supplies face their largest disruption since the 1970s, which caused this pricing shift. A global fuel crisis emerged from the 2026 US-Israel war on Iran. Shipping traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was blocked by Iran in late February. This maritime chokepoint handles around 25% of global seaborne oil trade. In response, the United States imposed a wide naval blockade on Iranian ports.

A temporary ceasefire offered brief hope in June, but it collapsed on July 8 after renewed attacks on commercial vessels. Iran shut the strait once more, prompting the US military to carry out airstrikes to reopen it. Continuous fighting and blockades restrict global oil shipments, forcing the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority to update pump prices daily.
