NADRA has detailed the procedure for married individuals to amend their marital status in official records by using a computerised marriage certificate and the Pak ID mobile application.
First, citizens need to obtain a computerised marriage certificate from the Union Council, Cantonment Board or Municipal Committee where the marriage was recorded. This document contains a Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) number, which is essential for the status change.
Once the certificate is secured, applicants may either go to a nearby NADRA Registration Centre or use the Pak ID mobile app to submit the update.
The method connects the marriage entry filed with the local authority to NADRA's database. The CRMS records key civil events, births, marriages, divorces and deaths, through authorised local bodies across Pakistan.
Obtain a Computerised Marriage Certificate
The initial requirement is to ensure the marriage is officially registered with the appropriate local authority.
Individuals should acquire a computerised marriage certificate from their Union Council, Cantonment Board, Municipal Committee or any other competent registration body, based on where the marriage took place.
Before proceeding with NADRA, citizens must verify that the certificate's details are accurate.
Have Your CRMS Number Ready
The computerised marriage certificate carries a CRMS number linked to the Civil Registration Management System.
Applicants need to keep this CRMS number handy when requesting a marital-status update.
NADRA explains that the CRMS network is employed by local authorities to log vital events such as births, deaths, marriages and divorces. The system operates in more than 11,000 Union Councils and supports issuance of civil registration certificates.
Updating Marital Status via the Pak ID App
Those who prefer an online route can use NADRA's Pak ID mobile app.
Users should download the official app, sign in or create an account, and choose the CNIC modification or non-printable information update service.
They will then input the required data and upload the supporting documents requested by the app.
NADRA confirms that Pak ID handles CNIC changes and updates to non-printable fields, permits document uploads, online fee payment and application tracking.
Applicants must follow the on-screen instructions, as extra verification may be needed depending on the case.
Updating Marital Status at a NADRA Registration Centre
People who favour a face-to-face approach can visit the nearest NADRA Registration Centre.
They should bring the computerised marriage certificate and any other required identity documents, then request the marital-status amendment.
NADRA may require identity or biometric verification during the process.
Citizens need to ensure the marriage details match those already recorded with the local authority.
If the Marriage Record Is Not Updated
Applicants must first verify that their marriage has been correctly registered with the relevant local authority.
NADRA's registration system depends on civil registration data generated by provincial and local government systems. Its policy also links marriage registration data with NADRA records to improve verification and accuracy.
Should the marriage record or CRMS data contain an error, the applicant may need to have the registering authority correct it before proceeding with NADRA's update.
